The little village of Jarjayes sits on the side of a steep north-south ridge, 9 km south of Gap. The medieval castle and chapelle are both in ruins, as is a 17th-century church. The Château des Tancs, the Chapelle St-Pierre and a 19th-century church, however, are still in good shape. The little village streets take you by some lovely old houses, some with large arches.

From the village, the view east across the valley of the Vance river far below is of the forested hill Puy Cervier (1239 m). The Vance flows into the Durance about 3 km south of the village.

Name
First record, 10th century
Medieval:
The old castle in the village, that overlooked the deep valley to the east, was destroyed during the Wars of Religion.

There are hiking trails in the Bois du Puy Cervier, just to the east of the village, and through the Forêt de Serre-Ponçon to the southeast, overlooking the Durance. For either area, the trails start in the little village of Valserres, a few km southeast of Jarjayes.
The trail north up to Puy Cervier continues in different branches, one going to Gap and another to La Bâtie-Neuve.
The trail east through the Forêt de Serre-Ponçon has a multitude of possibilities, including hikes along the lake and to Chorge, and eventually connecting with the GR50 (Grande Randonnée).
